Scholarships and Grants

AERO Member Grants/Scholarships

  • Do you need money for professional developmental courses?
  • Do you need to purchase equipment for teaching your clients with visual impairments?
  • Do you need financing to conduct a research project?

If you answered, “yes” to any of these questions, apply for an AERO member grant! AERO offers six (6) member grants every year to AERO members who are involved in the education or rehabilitation of persons who are blind or visually impaired, and three (3) scholarships based on information below. You will find the information about each scholarship and AERO Member Grant below, as well as the application for each.
 

Personnel Preparation Scholarship

One (1) $1,000 scholarship, awarded on a yearly basis, for an Ohio resident who is attending college and majoring in a field related to Blind Rehabilitation. These fields include, but are not limited to, Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Teaching, Orientation & Mobility or Education of Students with Visual Impairments. Applicants must be admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university. Undergraduate applicants must be of at least a Junior standing. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their major field of study. Applicants must be residents of the State of Ohio, but need not be enrolled in a program within Ohio. A student may receive this scholarship only one (1) time.

David H. Newmeyer: Post-Secondary Scholarship for Students who are Visually Impaired

Two (2) $500 scholarships, awarded on a yearly basis to individuals who wish to continue their educational training in academic, vocational or technical training programs at the post-secondary level. Applicants must be Ohio residents diagnosed with a visual impairment. Students already enrolled in post-secondary programs may apply; high school students must present a letter of acceptance to a post-secondary program with their completed application. A student may receive this scholarship only one (1) time.

AERO Member Grant

The purpose of this grant is to provide up to six (6) $250 grants per fiscal year to AERO members currently involved in the education and/or rehabilitation of persons who are blind and/or visually impaired. These grants may be used for professional development, research or to purchase materials to be used with students and/or clients. Members may receive grants one (1) time every three years.
